Exceptional Classical Gilded Wood and Gesso Convex Mirror, having wonderful, sculptural, scrolling, vine decoration. American or English, circa 1820-1830.
Convex, round mirrors in the early 19th century evolved from the Renaissance tradition and french prototypes of the 18th century. Until the French Revolution, most of the curved glass was made by french factories, but after supplies were cut off, the English developed their own processes. Height: 53", Width: 34" |
