Exceptional Antique English Papier-Mâché Sewing Cabinet, also called a
“Ladies Companion”decorated with gilt stenciling and inlaid with mother
of pearl shell, having a rectangular scalloped lid decorated with a scene of
abbey ruins which opens to a fitted interior with ivory sewing implements; the
front with two cabinet doors opening to an interior with a central mirrored
door flanked by drawers. The top drawer fitted and lined, the bottom
drawer is a lap desk with inkwell. Circa 1835-50. 16.5” x 13.5” x 17” tall |
