Born in 1906 in Chevy Chase, Maryland, Clayton studied with R.S. Maryman, Karl Knaths and Burtis Baker. He created art for WPA murals in Elkton, MD and St. Marys, WV. In adtion, he was a memeber of the Society of Washington Artists and exhibited at the Corcoran Gallery of Art, Art Institute of Chicago adn the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. Source: Falk.
