"Woman With Doves" Oil-on-canvas, laid down, signed lower left Circa 1865 Charles was the son of Louis Pierre Verwee and brother to Alfred Verwee, both of whom were painters. Charles studied under his father and J.B. de Jonghe. Unlike his father who was primarily an animal painter, Charles specialized in genre scenes and portraiture.
