Broom House Near Dorking, Surrey John Hassell (English, 1767-1825) Pair of watercolors on paper, the latter signed and dated: “1822”.
Image size: 6” x 8” John Hassell was an engraver and drawing master as well as a prolific author. He produced a biography of his friend, the well known artist, George Morland, as well as treatises on watercolour painting and a series of elaborate guide books illustrated by aquatints from his own drawings. He exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1789. Hassell is listed in The Dictionary of British Watercolor Artists up to 1920 by Mallalieu. |
