John Milne Donald (Scottish, 1819-1866) Landscape with Stream Oil on panel.
Painting size: 6” x 9” Donald first trained as an artist by serving as an apprentice to a painter of horse portraits in Glasgow. At the age of 21, he visited Paris and further refined his skills by copying paintings in the Louvre. When he returned to Great Britain, he settled in London where he worked for several years restoring paintings. He returned to Scotland in 1844 and began to paint local landscapes. As his personal style developed, his scenes became more luminous and colorful. Donald is listed in The Dictionary of Scottish Painters by Harris & Halsby. |
