A resident of London in 1832, Mitchell exhibited one painting at the Royal Academy that same year. He also painted two horse and rider portraits that were later engraved by the Hunts. Both engravings were later included in J. Mitchell’s publication, Celebrated Winners, that commemorated many famous horses. Mitchell is listed in The Dictionary of British Equestrian Artists by Mitchell.
