Born in Belgium, Coppenolle went to France to work at the faience factory of Schopin in Montigny. There he created sketches and ink studies of hens and cocks for plates, platters, jugs and cache-pots. His paintings repeated the same themes but also included still lifes which exhibited his admiration of the Dutch and Flemish masters of the 17th century.
