Snowden was born in Ashton, MD and studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and the Corcoran School of Art. She was active in Washington, DC from 1910-1933, exhibiting during that time with both the Society of Washington Artists and the Washington Watercolor Club. She was also represented in the Corcoran Gallery of Art’s biennials in 1923 and 1926. Snowden exhibited with the Society of Independent Artists (1924-1927), and was awarded the prestigious Cresson Traveling Scholarship of the PAFA in 1914. She travelled abroad in the summers of 1913 and 1914 on scholarships she received from the Pennsylvania Academy. Snowden was known for her atmospheric landscapes and city scenes, as well as her portraits.
