Primarily a landscape painter of pastoral scenes, Hooper painted in a broad realistic style similar to that of H.J. Kinnaird. A prolific artist, he exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1885-1899 and at Suffolk Street from 1877-1878.
There is some discrepancy over his birth and death dates, variously listed as 1837-1912, 1850-1906 and 1852-1899 and variations on those dates.
