Hendricks A Hallett (American, 1847-1921)

Off Penobscot Bay

Hallett was known primarily for his paintings of ships, historical marine events and seascapes. Many of his marine paintings are of Boston Harbor and the shoreline of Mt. Desert. Maine. He and his wife Florence travelled to Europe in 1872 where they both studied art in Antwerp and Paris. They eventually returned to Boston where they remained.

Hallett’s work was exhibited throughout New England. He was a member of the Boston Art Club and the Boston Society of Watercolor Painters. Although most famous for his seascapes, he also painted in the White Mountains of New Hampshire.
