Bernard Gussow (American, 1881-1957)
Oil on canvas, signed.
A Russian émigré, Gussow became a respected painter, lithographer and teacher in the United States. Educated at the City College of New York, Art Students League and the National Academy of Design in the US, he continued his artistic training in Paris studying under Bonnét at the École des Beaux-Arts.
A teacher at the Newark (NJ) School of Fine and Industrial Art, he still found time to exhibit extensively in the United States and Paris. The Society of Independent Artists; Luxemborg Museum, Paris; Art Institute of Chicago; Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts; Rockefeller Center; and the National Gallery of Art were a few of the many venues that exhibited his work.
